Monster families
Monsters roam the map in squads belonging to five families—plus a Halloween-only sixth. The family is flavor; what matters tactically is the unit composition inside the squad, which the info tab lists along with strengths and weaknesses.
| Family | Example units |
|---|---|
| Undead | Ghoul, Banshee, Necromancer, Deathhound Rider, Dark Rider, Vampire, Death Chariot |
| Inferno | Fiend, Magog, Horned Demon, Cerberus |
| Cursed | Skeleton, Witch Doctor, Jaguar Rider, Werewolf, Giant Zombie, Cursed Dendroid, Wyvern |
| Barbarian | Axe Thrower, Storm Crow |
| Elven | Dwarf, Elven Archer, Druid, Centaur, Pegasus Rider, Unicorn Rider, Ent, Dryad, Life Dragon |
| Pumpkin (Halloween) | Seasonal event squads |

Squad rarities
| Rarity | Who can attack | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Common | One captain only | Level tracks your strongest captain's level. |
| Rare | Hero only | Level tracks your hero's level. |
| Heroic | Hero + all captains + reinforcements | Valid Clan Raid targets; defeating one grants a clan chest to every participant. |
| Epic | Event-only | Rules depend on the event (Doomsday: one captain; Armageddon: hero only; Arachne's Swarm: all three captains…). |
There is no energy or stamina system for hunting. The real limits are march slots (leaders), troop losses (the revival economy), and—for crypts—Tar. Valor scales with the level and number of troops you kill; officially, the most efficient Valor farming is epic monsters hit with a wide variety of troops.
Citadels
Citadels are boss-tier monster fortresses from level 10 up, protected by walls that work like city fortifications—you need Engineer Corps and the right catapults. Rewards: Master Coins (special equipment crafting), a special clan chest, and—from Elven Citadels—the Dragon Keys that unlock Rare Crypts.
Crypts
| Rarity | From level | Unlock | Loot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Common | 5 | None—just Tar | Common gear materials |
| Rare | 10 | Crypts II research + a Dragon Key | Gems + materials |
| Epic | 15 | Crypts III research + Epic Tar (from tournaments) | Materials for unique equipment |
Crypts run to level 35 (Crypts VII research). Carrying extra Tar grants bonus exploration per strike, and research adds cost reductions, efficiency, and double-strike chance. Finishing a crypt drops a chest for the finisher and a clan gift for your whole clan—one more reason clans want you crypting daily.
Everything else on the map
| Target | What it gives |
|---|---|
| Arenas | Hero-only level-5 sites: resources, speedups, hero XP, and Valor (common) or Conquest Points (rare). Finishing one earns a clan gift. |
| Resource tiles | Farm (food), Sawmill (wood), Mine (iron), Quarry (stone), Village (silver), Gold Mine (gold). Haul capped by your march's carrying capacity; rarer resources gather slower. |
| Built mines | Player-created tiles using Great Architect's Blueprints—bigger and longer-lived than wild tiles; max two on the map at once; can't be placed in foreign clan territory. |
| Unique mines | Dragon Mounds and Mountains of Gold (gold—the latter spawn only in the kingdom that won Clash of Kingdoms); Wellspring Ruins (Tar). |
| Portals | Open one anywhere outside foreign clan land; marches launch from whichever is closer. Danger: enemies attacking through your portal ignore your walls and your shield. |
| Wonder of the World | Each kingdom's central monument, ringed by Dark Obelisks. No building or teleporting nearby. |
| Event objects | Vaults (Rise of the Ancients), Mercenary Exchanges (Trade Routes), Lava Fountains and Tartaros Crypts (Trials of Olympus), and epic event squads—Fenrir, Jörmungandr, Chimera, Basilisk, and friends. |
Attacking occupied mines is legal by game rules—the winner takes everything gathered plus the mine. But most kingdoms restrict it in their player-made Rules of Engagement, and it is the classic diplomatic flashpoint. Know your kingdom's rules before you hit a tile.
The Watchtower
Your map search engine: activate it for 6 hours to 30 days and it finds monster squads, crypts, arenas, and mines by type and level. Its For the Dragon filter shows only monsters matching your progress—Common monster levels track your strongest captain, Rare levels track your hero.
