Getting Started

Total Battle is a free-to-play MMO strategy city-builder by Scorewarrior—browser, iOS, Android, and desktop, all on one account. This page covers the core loop, your first weeks, shields, and the mistakes that quietly wreck new accounts.

The core loop

Everything in Total Battle feeds one cycle: build and upgrade your city → keep Academy research running 24/7 → train troops → send marches onto the Kingdom Map to gather resources, kill monster squads, and explore Crypts → feed the loot back into upgrades → compete in the rolling calendar of solo and clan events. Players who understand that the map (monsters, crypts, tiles) funds the city—not the other way around—grow several times faster than players who sit home.

Your city sits on a shared Kingdom Map alongside other players' cities, clan territories, resource tiles (forests, quarries, mines), Wellsprings (Tar), monster squads, Crypts, and the King's Palace—the throne objective that kingdom politics revolves around. Proximity matters: closer targets mean faster marches. Kingdoms are numbered servers; cross-kingdom teleports are heavily limited (roughly one per 90 days), so where you settle matters.

Your first weeks

New accounts get starter advantages that last until roughly Hero level 20: instant building completion, 10× march speed, and 90% cheaper troop revival. This is the cheapest growth you will ever get—use it aggressively instead of saving it.

  • Join a clan immediately. Clan help shaves time off every queue, clan gifts cover most of your wood/stone/iron, and clan chests and coordinated raids drive the biggest rewards in the game. Playing clanless is the single most common new-player mistake.
  • Build in this order: Capitol → Academy → Warehouse → Barracks → resource buildings. Keep Academy, Temple, Warehouse, and your main Barracks within 1–2 levels of the Capitol before each Capitol upgrade.
  • Never let the Academy sit idle. Research runs 24/7 from day one. An idle Academy is permanently lost progress.
  • Crypt every day. Crypts drop the gear materials and gems that compound into permanent account power. Skipping them early is a disadvantage you never fully claw back.
  • Stay PvE-focused. Monsters and crypts, not player raids. PvP before your economy and research can support it just donates troops.
  • Request clan help on every queue before spending speedups, and hoard speedups, resource tokens, and XP chests to open during major events for double value.
The golden rule

A well-researched player at Capitol 15 beats a poorly-researched one at Capitol 20. Never rush the Capitol ahead of your support buildings and research.

Shields and staying safe

A Shield of Peace blocks direct attacks on your city. The standard discipline: always shield before logging off, keep resources below your Warehouse protection cap, and bank overflow as unopened resource tokens in your inventory—unopened items cannot be looted.

The portal loophole

An open portal bypasses your shield entirely—portal attacks ignore your City Walls, hit your army directly, and on a win plunder building resources, Food, Silver, and Gold Ingots. If you are shielded but your portal is open, you are not safe. Close portals when you shield.

Common beginner mistakes

  • Rushing the Capitol past support buildings.
  • Letting food go negative—a food deficit roughly doubles troop training costs and applies army penalties. It is the only resource with a real deficit punishment.
  • Leaving the Academy idle overnight.
  • Skipping daily crypts.
  • Rushing Guardsmen tier unlocks—event difficulty scales with your highest unlocked Guardsmen tier, not your hero level. Unlocking G5 before your economy supports it makes every event harder for no gain.
  • Using Guardsmen for PvP—Specialists deal double damage against players and are the PvP troop class; Guardsmen are your monster-hunting class.
  • Spending speedups outside event windows.
  • Logging off unshielded, or shielded with an open portal.

VIP, Premium, and the daily rhythm

VIP has 25 levels, advanced with VIP points (bought with Gold, pulled from clan chests, or bundled in offers). It grants free construction, army stat boosts, and daily rewards, and levels never decay. Premium is a separate quality-of-life status: bulk combining of materials and gems, bulk chest opening, and instant speedup application.

Daily quests reset every day and award activity points toward daily and weekly milestone chests—typical tasks are clearing monster squads, researching a technology, running crypts, fighting in the Arena, and training troops. Clan chests are earned by clanmates' activity and expire 20 hours after appearing, which is why serious clans track contributions with third-party chest-counter tools.

If you spend money at all, community consensus is that the Golden Pass (the battle-pass equivalent) is the best value in the game, ahead of any limited pack. And a practical session flow used by veterans: log in → queue a building with your construction captain active → queue research with your research captain → run crypts → spend event energy → check clan raids and gifts.
