Chests Grow Clans
Every other job in this game pays the player who did it. Chests pay the whole clan at once, which is why the clans that grow fastest treat chests as a group project and not a solo grind.
Gathering pays one farmer. Killing a monster pays one hero. Fully explore a crypt and a clan chest drops for every member at once, claimable for the better part of a day. One player's tar becomes the whole roster's loot.
Why the whole clan should care
Two things come out of a crypt, and the clan wants both. One is materials, and materials build gear, the one kind of power in this game you keep. Buildings get superseded. Troops get replaced. Research caps out. The equipment a clan crafts from a season of crypting is still on its heroes, and no purchase buys it back.
The other is the chest, and the chest isn't crafting materials. It's gold, silver, sacred potions, resources, and whatever else the game rolls. The player who finishes the crypt gets one, and the whole clan gets one for every crypt anyone finishes. So a clan that crypts every day isn't a little ahead of one that doesn't. It's richer, and it's wearing armor the other clan can't shop for.
The fairest work in the game
A giant account and a day-old one both send a captain, and both feed the whole clan the same chest. It's where the smallest members pull real weight: no army, no risk, nothing lost. So when a clan counts crypts, it's counting its own health.
Fair doesn't mean flat, though. Always send the biggest crypt you can clear in one trip, because the reward climbs steeply with the level. A high-level crypt is worth many times a low one, not a little more, both for you and in the chest it drops for the clan. So the aim isn't just to crypt. It's to keep pushing the level you can one-shot, and to send the biggest one you can finish every time.
Level your Carter first
Carter is the epic captain built for crypts, and he's what makes the whole cycle pay. He carries 1% crypt exploration efficiency for every level, up to 300. That efficiency decides whether a crypt clears in one march or two, and a crypt that takes two marches burns twice the tar for the same chest.
The gap isn't small. One filmed comparison had an ordinary captain spend around 1,000 tar on a crypt Carter finished for 370. Same chest, a third of the tar. So every level you pour into Carter early is more chests a day for the whole clan, off the same stock.
Carter's crypt bonus stops climbing at level 300: a level 400 Carter carries the same 300% as a level 300 one. Level him hard until then, and after that spend the experience somewhere it still buys something.
He comes from the Summoning Circle (five free summons a day, collect the fragments) or an Academy unlock. His kit is Tomb Raider gear moving up to Omniscience, an Amber gem, the Pioneer enchantment, and the Torch of Olympus artifact. The full build, and the trick of finding the biggest crypt he clears in one trip, live in the crypting guide.
Where chests come from
You want three taps open, and only one of them is free.
Crypts, your daily bread
Send one captain carrying no troops, spend tar, come home with materials and a clan chest for everyone. Common crypts run on common tar you make at home, so this tap is free and it's daily. Just finish what you start: a crypt left half-explored is a chest you paid for and handed to a stranger.
Citadels, the key to the gems
Elven Citadels drop Dragon keys, and a key is the only thing that opens a rare crypt, the ones that pay gems instead of plain materials. Take a citadel at the level you need and the clan unlocks a tier of loot the clans without citadels just don't have. These are a fight, not a dig, so bring siege for the wall and bring friends. Cursed Citadels pay out too, in Master Coins. Citadels have their own full guide.
Everything else, on the game's clock
Events like Fenrir's Invasion and the Olympus crypts hand out chests and keys on their own schedule. The shop and your daily gifts add a few more. All worth grabbing, but they arrive when the game decides, not when you do. Crypting is the one tap you control.
Chests aren't the reward for growing,
they're how a clan grows.
